The arrival of Battlefield from New South Wales earlier this year, has proven to be an astute acquisition for Lockwood Racing.
The 3yo son of Deep Field caught the eye on his local debut, producing a fast-finishing second at Doomben before a commanding two and a half length win at Eagle Farm at his following start.
At his third and most recent outing Battlefield, partnered by regular rider Robbie Dolan, impressed again when showing good accelerate to make it back-to-back victories.
“He’ll pay his way here in Brisbane, that’s for sure … he looks like me when I was younger (a bit tubby), he’ll get older and he’ll be like me too.” Lockwood said post-race.
Jockey Robbie Dolan added:
“Geez he quickened up didn’t he?
He’s a nice little horse, he showed plenty of tenacity to last there sitting outside the leader and quickening up how he did.
He’s better ridden like that I believe, with a bit of a sit. Barry just instilled it into me before the race, ‘Be real patient – it’s a long way up’ and once I ducked back to the inside and gave him a squeeze, he was never getting beaten.
He’s with the right trainer – Barry will place him very well, and the world is his oyster at the moment.”
